Internet Fundamentals and where this application fits in:

The Internet is a global data communications system. It is a hardware and software infrastructure that provides connectivity between computers and computer networks. In contrast, the World Wide Web is a collection of interconnected documents and other resources, linked by hyperlinks and URLs.

Where does this application fit into this picture?

This application is a web application hosted on a collection of virtual servers in a server cloud. A telecommunications infrastructure links the cloud servers to the rest of the Internet.

This application generates web sites for its users. The pages of these sites are rendered in html which is readable by the search engines and the surfing public. The pages internal links and inbound links from other sites connect them to the world wide web.

Site visitors who type in the actual web site address (domain) are considered to be 'direct traffic'. Most other traffic is the result of people clicking on inbound links found in search engine results or on other third party sites. Some traffic will come from automated robots following links to scan and index sites automatically.

We consider the amount of traffic to be the primary indicator of the 'visibility' of the site. Traffic is a key determinant of a site's success.
