A Definition of Deva
The Sanskrit Devá... is originally an adjective meaning "celestial" or "shining", from the root *diw meaning "to shine"
Deva (देव in Devanagari script) is the Sanskrit word for deity. It can be loosely interpreted as angel, or any benevolent supernatural beings.
A deva in the New Age movement refers to any of the spiritual forces or beings behind nature.... There are numerous different types of devas ... performing different functions on Earth....
A deva (देव Sanskrit and Pāli) in Buddhism is one of many different types of super human being.
In Indic languages this became Devi in that context meaning "goddess".
And later in European languages it became "divine", "deity", "dieu", "deus", "dios", "dio" and "Zeus".
